Cycling Accident Compensation

Cycling is a very popular leisure activity and means of transport, but with the sheer volume of traffic on today’s roads cycling is not without its dangers. All types of cyclists are at risk, whether they be a lycra-clad speedster training for the next race, leisure cyclists enjoying a relaxing ride, or a commuter simply travelling to and from work.

Unfortunately, it is often the case that vehicle drivers do not see a cyclist, regardless of whether they are wearing fluorescent and reflective clothing and riding with the correct lights in the dark, especially if the cyclist is in their vehicle’s ‘blind spot’. Cyclists are, therefore, very vulnerable when riding on today’s congested roads, with very little protection other than a helmet, which it is advisable to wear to avoid a cyclist’s head injury or even death.

If you are taken by ambulance to hospital immediately the Police will gather information on your behalf to be passed on to your representatives, but if you can take the driver’s name, address, insurance details and also ask any witnesses for their contact information as you will need to obtain as much evidence as you can to support your claim against the driver for negligence.

Information to bear in mind

Any claim against the third party responsible for your injuries must start within three years of the date of the accident, but in the case of life-changing injuries, it may take time for the full extent of these to become apparent. PHC Law Solicitors will seek to obtain interim damages for current, and future, loss of earnings, the costs of rehabilitation care and family care, and any home adaptations which may be needed.
